Matthew Wagner joined the Village of Cottage Grove Police Department as the first Lieutenant of Police in March of 2016. Prior to that he was a Sergeant and police officer for the Village of Oregon Police Department from June of 2006 until joining Cottage Grove. Lt. Wagner has 14 years of public service experience. Lt. Wagner served in the United States Marine Corps from Sept 1999 to Sept 2003. During this time Lt. Wagner reached the rank of Sergeant. Lt. Wagner did two tours of duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Afghanistan and Iraq. Lt. Wagner was honorable discharged in Sept 2003. Lt. Wagner began his Law Enforcement career in 2006 as an officer with the Village of Oregon Police Department and was promoted to Sergeant in 2011. Lt. Wagner has a Master’s Degree in Organizational Change Leadership from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and is a Northwestern University School of Staff and Command Graduate. He is a member of the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association. Lt. Wagner is a member of the day shift team.
